My Story

My Product Management journey began in earnest in 2007, when music download company OD2, founded by Peter Gabriel, was acquired by Nokia as it sought to challenge Apple’s dominance in the music space. I was part of the product management team that created 'Comes With Music’, the world’s first unlimited access music service. By 2011 I was leading the Product organisation and we achieved another first when we rolled out the world’s first global streaming internet radio service Nokia Music.

By 2014 the Bristol-based team I was part of were now part of Microsoft. Whilst working there I led a radical modernisation of our product management processes, putting user-centred product design at the heart of our software development. The result was a best-of-breed user experience, achieved the highest net promotor score ever recorded by an internet service in Microsoft at that point.

Now called ‘MixRadio’ we were spun-out of Microsoft and was acquired by Japanese messaging service Line, allowing us to offer our service to iPhone and Android users for the first time. This resulted in a massive growth in our active user base and we hit 25 million users in 31 markets in 2015.

In 2016 as co-founder and Head of Product and Design, I helped raise $3 million funding to start Audiogum, an IOT SaaS business focused on home audio connectivity and music service personalisation.

In 2017 I joined Cookpad, the world’s largest recipe sharing community, as Head of Product for their Discovery team, and led the team building their new personalised recipe home feed.

As Head of Product and Design at Drop (now called Fresco) I modernised team ways of working by building a measurement culture, design-thinking methodology and a permanent user testing lab. This renewed focus on the user experience helped increase new app user (n-day) retention from 10% to 38%. Whilst there I also helped raise $13.3 million in Series A funding in 2020, and grow the platform base from 500k to 3 million users.

In 2021 I joined Play Sports Network (a Warner Brothers Discovery company) as Head of Product, responsible for the Product Management of all digital assets for the GCN, GMBN, EMBN and GTN brands. The product offering was extremely broad, our assets included a streaming-video subscription service, community / social features, e-commerce sites and a suite of connected TV apps. Whilst there I led a complete overhaul of team ways of working, resulting in significant improvements in product outcomes.

Since 2021 I have been on the advisory board of Lunos, a company focused on helping ‘early idea’ to scale-up businesses get market confidence and demonstrable traction to build, launch, fund or grow their businesses.
